CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Laguindingan International Airport is preparing for possible international operations as its private operator, Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC), continues efforts to enhance airport services and promote Northern Mindanao as a potential destination for foreign travelers.
AIC said the airport is already capable of accommodating international flights, with the introduction of overseas routes depending on airline decisions, including route planning, passenger demand, and market opportunities.
The airport operator has been working with tourism stakeholders to promote Northern Mindanao and attract more visitors through stronger tourism partnerships and destination development initiatives.
Aside from tourism efforts, AIC has also focused on improving airport facilities, strengthening operational systems, upgrading commercial areas, and enhancing passenger experience to support future growth.
During its first year under private management, Laguindingan International Airport recorded approximately 2.17 million passengers and 17,451 aircraft movements, nearing its current annual capacity of 2.9 million passengers.
While international flights have yet to begin, the airport continues to expand its capabilities and prepare for increased air connectivity that could open more opportunities for tourism, business, and travel in Northern Mindanao.
