Lt. Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete has been appointed as the new Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), following the retirement of Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr.

The Department of National Defense (DND) announced the appointment on Tuesday, July 21, with the approval of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Nafarrete, who previously served as the commanding general of the Philippine Army, will now lead the country’s military organization.

With his new assignment, Lt. Gen. Donald M. Gumiran, commander of the Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom), will take over as the next commanding general of the Philippine Army.

The leadership changes mark a new transition in the AFP’s top ranks as the military continues its operations in national defense and security.
